SKILLED INDEPENDENT VISA
Permanent resident in Australia (PR), also known as the Skilled Independent- Subclass 189 Visa, is designed for people whose skills are needed to fill a skills gap in Australia. This visa provides the opportunity to migrate Australia and work anywhere in the territory. The candidate has to fulfil the eligibility criteria for successful application of Skilled independent Visa. This required fluent English, professional work experience and academic qualification that is demanded in the Australian market. Being an essential requirement, Qualification is no longer the obligatory requirement for this visa subclass. The profession of applicant must be included in the medium- and long-term strategic list of qualified professionals - MLTSSL for Australian migration. The next step is evaluation of candidate in Australia be concerning authorities for his profession i.e., field experience, professional skills, and academic degrees are weighted against Australian migration standards for certain job.
The stream is designed for point-tested trained employees who are not funded by a family member or worker or referred by a state or region government. It allows the candidate to live and work in Australian territory as a permanent resident.
For the flow of qualified independents (verified by points) you need to submit an expression of interest. If you are a New Zealand citizen, you can apply for a qualified independent visa (subclass 189) (New Zealand).

- Submit an EOI and be invited to apply
- correspond to a point score of 65 points (as of July 1, 2018)
- Age between 18-44 years
- have fluent English
- be invited to apply from the Ministry department of the Interior Home Affairs.

Relevant skill assessing authorities issue the skills evaluation. Skill Assessing authority is an association that evaluates that the applicant’s skills meet the bar they set for working in a profession.
Expression of Interest (EOI):
Provide an Expression of Interest (EOI) with details of your assigned occupation, professional skills, and academic qualifications. Skill Select will score points and rank you among other planning migrants. Anyone wishing to obtain a visa invitation must submit an EOI. (Your EOI will stay in the pool for up to 2 years). Providing EOI does not require any costs.
If you have a high enough rating and there are places for your nominated job, you will be asked to apply for a visa.

What you can do with a 189 visa (Benefits)
Visa 189 is a permanent visa. This allows you to:

Can I apply in Australia or overseas?
The applicant can be in Australia or abroad when submitting his expression of interest report. He can be either in Australian territory or abroad when applying for subclass 189 skilled independent visa. In order to be able to reside in Australia, you need to have a bridging visa or a transitional visa A, B or C. Once you apply from within Australian region, you will receive a transitional visa that will allow you to stay in Australia during processing your application to obtain a PR visa. If your current visa is denied or revoked, you may not be eligible to apply for a 189 visa till then you remain in Australia.
